2000s

2000

Golden Hope Plantations Berhad makes its debut into the pink guava puree manufacturing industry via a new plantation in the Sungei Wangi estate.

2004

Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad becomes the first plantation company in the world to be granted EUREGAP (European Retailers and Producers Good Agriculture Practices) certification for plantation management. 

2006

A Special Purpose Vehicle called Synergy Drive is established to acquire all assets and liabilities of Sime Darby Berhad, Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad and Golden Hope Berhad.

2007

The newly established Synergy Drive is listed on Bursa Malaysia as Sime Darby Group with a market capitalisation of RM59.5 billion – nearly 80% more than its original RM31.6 billion at the start of the merger process.

2008

Sime Darby Plantation receives its first Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil certification (RSPO).

2009

Discovery in the Oil Palm Genome after Sime Darby Plantation's Scientists successfully deciphered the genetics of the oil palm, making it the world's first company to achieve this scientific breakthrough.

Sime Darby Plantation Sdn. Bhd. launches its Mangrove Research Centre (MRC), the first centre for mangrove research in Malaysia. MRC is a platform for research on the mangrove ecosystem and coastal zone management.

2010s

2010

Launch of the Sime Darby Innovation Centre Europe (ICE) in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, a state-of-the-art facility for testing prototype oil formulations in food applications and production at a pilot scale. 

2012

A New Central Housing Complex is launched to build modern housing facilities and create a communal living environment to raise the standard of living for employees.

2014

Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) commits to the Sustainable Palm Oil Manifesto, which sets higher sustainability standards for growers, traders, end-users, and other stakeholders in the industry. 

2015

SDP completes the acquisition of New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL), adding another 135,000 hectares of land in Papua New Guinea, bringing SDP's total land bank to almost one million hectares.

2016

Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) commences its first large scale planting of GenomeSelect™ high yielding oil palms, which will allow the Company to produce more oil with existing land.

2017

SDP is listed on Bursa Malaysia on 30th November 2017 after the demerger from the holding company, Sime Darby Berhad.

2019

First commercial harvest of GenomeSelect™ with a 20% yield.

2020s

2020

Publication of the Genome map in the public domain to fuel the research of others in the plantation sector.

2021

In a watershed for the industry, SDP announced that it is paving the way towards oil palm plantations of the future, transforming laborious manual and menial work with mechanisation, automation and digitalisation.

2022

SDP committed to achieving Net-Zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
